Biography:
Chris Myhrum heads the firm’s Environmental Law Department and coordinates the firm’s Pro Bono program. He specializes in federal and state compliance and regulatory matters, with a focus on practical and effective problem solving for industrial, commercial, financial and institutional clients. Since establishing the firm’s environmental practice group, he has overseen its expansion into virtually all areas of environmental law.
Mr. Myhrum has handled matters from environmental impact review litigation and Superfund site negotiations to judicial and administrative appeals and regulatory compliance auditing. He regularly deals with federal and state agencies, and has extensive experience in getting development projects, including Brownfields development, through regulatory obstacles. He is an acknowledged expert on the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, and participates in a wide variety of regulatory reform initiatives, including regarding the reform of groundwater classification in Massachusetts. Former Governor William Weld appointed him to the Consulting Consortium on Title V of the Massachusetts Environmental Code. Mr. Myhrum has served on the Environmental Curriculum Advisory Committee for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. With the experience gained from his background in judicial and administrative proceedings and compliance counseling, he regularly writes and lectures on a variety of environmental topics. He has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 1991. In 2004, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court appointed him to Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation as the representative of County Bar Associations.
Mr. Myhrum is a graduate of New York University and a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College Law School, where he was Executive Editor of the Environmental Affairs Law Review. He joined the firm in 1983 following a clerkship with United States District Judge Frank H. Freedman. He has served as a director and President of Springfield Day Nursery, Inc., as a Corporator of the Community United Way, and as a Board Member and Clerk of the Drama Studio, a regional theatrical arts training program focusing on children and young adults. He is a Trustee and serves on the Coordinating Council of the Pioneer Valley Plan for Progress, concentrating on streamlining environmental permitting and decision making, restoration of the Connecticut River and the encouragement of urban investment in the Connecticut River Valley Region. He is a fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, and has been a board member of the Supreme Judicial Court Historical Society.
