Bio

Mike Sweet started his legal career with a Wall Street-based law firm and for nearly 25 years has been practicing in Springfield. He represents businesses and the people that own and manage those businesses through all stages of their business life cycle, as well as their personal lives. Throughout his career, Mike has fostered many valued, long-term relationships with multiple generations in family-owned businesses.

Mike has extensive experience advising clients and drafting documents to launch organizations; close significant debt and equity financings; hire and retain key talent; buy, sell and finance commercial real estate; complete strategic acquisitions; and navigate successful liquidity events of various types and sizes.

Mike has represented for-profit and nonprofit entities in a wide variety of industries, including retail businesses with footprints in several states, manufacturing, strategic investment, railroad and logistics, energy, health care, information technology, professional sports and construction.

An extensive history of volunteer work has allowed Mike to support causes that are important to him, including improving educational opportunities available to all people. He also has a particular interest in increasing opportunities for people living with spinal cord injuries.

Advised individuals and businesses in transformative transactions, negotiating their most important contracts with transaction partners from within and outside of the region, state and country.

Represented investors and target companies in debt and equity financings involving multi-layered capital structures.

Led transaction teams in complex and time-sensitive matters, requiring effective collaboration with multiple law firms, accounting firms, investment bankers and other team members.
Guided and documented key contracts among business owners and their leadership teams, including limited liability company agreements, shareholder agreements, incentive plans and employment agreements.
